Morning Light: An Intimate Morning in NYC

There’s something about natural morning light in New York City that instantly changes the feeling of a photoshoot.

For ShutterDownEasy Magazine Issue 14, I photographed Isa inside a bright NYC studio filled with large windows, soft white curtains and beautiful natural light. Instead of building the shoot around dramatic lighting or an elaborate set, the idea was to keep everything simple, intimate and relaxed.

The result became Morning Light — An Intimate Morning in NYC.

Natural Light, Simple Styling

Isa started the session wearing a mint-colored lingerie set paired with an oversized white button-down shirt. The soft colors worked perfectly with the bright studio and gave the photographs a clean, airy quality.

Rather than heavily posing every frame, I wanted this shoot to feel more like capturing moments — Isa relaxing on the couch, moving through the space, looking toward the windows and interacting naturally with the environment.

As the session progressed, we gradually simplified the styling even further, creating a series of tasteful artistic nude photographs focused on light, shape, composition and the natural beauty of the human form.

The entire shoot had a quiet, effortless feeling that was very different from some of our previous ShutterDownEasy sessions.

Creating the Cinematic Film

Photography was only one part of the shoot.

Throughout the session, we also filmed a complete cinematic fashion film designed to capture the movement and atmosphere that still photographs can't always convey.

Slow camera movement, natural window light and the minimal NYC setting allowed the video to feel intimate without becoming overly produced. The finished film moves from Isa's mint-and-white wardrobe into the more artistic portions of the session while maintaining the same soft visual style throughout.

For the soundtrack, I chose “From Above” by Gvidon, which gave the film the dreamy, relaxed energy I was looking for.

Behind the Scenes of the Photoshoot

One of my favorite parts of ShutterDownEasy has become showing what happens between the finished photographs.

Issue 14 includes a complete behind-the-scenes video from the session, giving members a much closer look at how the photographs and cinematic sequences were actually created.

You'll see the studio, lighting, posing, camera movement, transitions between setups and many of the small moments that eventually became the finished photographs and film.

That's really what ShutterDownEasy has evolved into.

More than the final photo.

It's about experiencing the entire shoot.
